ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHY

All of the photos taken on this site were done by Michael Martin. A student of New College of the University of South Florida and a graduate of The School of Visual Arts.

Michael has been serving the Southern New Jersey coast since 1983. His foray into Lifeguard race photography started back in the early 80's but faded soon with the high cost of film and processing. He returned to action photography in the summer of 2001 after experimenting with digital photography. All of the races shot for the summer of 2001 were shot digitally using the Fuji S1 Pro camera. Photos from 2 of last summer's races can be found under the "2001 Race Photo" section. Michael is currently shooting this year with the new state of the art Canon EOS 1D digital camera. Now able to shoot at a record setting pace of 8 frames per second each racing moment can be captured with no delay.
